Today was a pretty cool, we got to go learn about beaver dams and about how they build there dams, what they eat, and survive where they are. They leave there family when there 2 and make there own dam. We tried to build a dam today and it did look easy at first until we had to do it and it was hard and not so easy, I did have fun and laughed , Now i see how hard it is to be a beaver, they are awesome to me now, they are such hard little workers, but anyways i didn't know there was thing they do to save beavers. Its cool that people actually try to save them. Today is our last day and cant wait to get home.

Yesterday we made it to coeur d'alene and it was fun because we got to go to a culture dinner and it was great, it was there first culture dinner bringing back the traditional foods, the food was good and watched the girl a couple dances, and me and a couple of our friends also danced, the girls that danced were also from white swan. The language and some of the culture is fading and they want to do anything they can to bring it back, its kinda the same way it is at home, they only got 2 fluent speakers on the land and they are both in there 90's, our language is also slowly going away but I'm trying my best to learn it. We also seen a power point on the watershed and the danger of the water and how its effecting the family's and the land also the animals, its a real big problem here. We did set up camp late.

7-23-15

We had to get up early to take a shower and seen another power point and visited the land that they did a project on. The water had a lot in it and people put allot of work into the land so it was pretty nice to go out there. We also did our little part on helping making a canoe and that was fun and got to work with different tools, i forgot the name of them but it was fun. We also went to a spot where they keep the artifacts from way back then to now. I did have fun and did learn about the land. We only got a couple more days to go but i heard that we have a lot to do tomorrow.

BUT A SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US LEARN MORE THINGS ABOUT THIS LAND AND HELPING US, THANK YOU SO MUCH. 😃

Midnight mind
7-21-15
Today was pretty cool, we learned about how the land is trying to save the animals on the land and keep them under control on how many there are, we also learned about the tribe and how the water is being effected. We also did a project and had to catch fish to see what predators are in the water and see how the fish are doing, that was fun, I have done it before but it was nice to do it again. I also had to clan a fish because I guess no one at the camp know how to do it, everyone was watching me and I got nerves and messed up a couple times but no one notice and it was my first time doing it without my grandma or grandpa by my side making sure I do it right and my first time having a lot of people watching me clean a fish, only use to having a couple people from my family watching me but I did good, not perfect but good. After I cleaned it then one of my friends but onions and lemons on it and the dinner was really good! we also got took to the pit house, I’m not going to say what happened or what was said so I’ll just leave it at that but was very thankful. The trip is almost over and I can’t wait to get home.

7-20-15

Yesterday was fun and the cannoning worked out well, it was fun but a little tiring. We also had brownies last night! Today was okay I would thing, there was a couple times where I got lost but they were talking about their tribe, how some of their fishing tradition's got lost but they are slowly coming back. That made me think of our school because there is only one teacher trying to keep our traditions in our school, she teaches us the language, like how to say the colors, numbers, animals and just to speak in our language also the foods, and a few stories on how we got them. But besides that we went to the midnight mind and learned about how they were going to take all that water out of there and cover it with gravel and that could take up to 10 years to fill it all up. Yesterday we also got to native artist named gorge hill and we did some drawings, I got to see some of his work last year and he has some good art work. We played a couple games to kind of wake us up after the power point, the games where like the games we played at our school during a pep assembly. I did get to try to make some new friends and it was an okay attempt. Today was good though 😖

We got to another camp site here at wellpinit, we had a catch up day so we had to get our blogs done, the laundry done, and we got to go swimming at Turtle Lake that was very fun, take a shower. We didn’t do much but it was fun to go swimming. We got back to camp threw a football around with my cousins and had dinner.

7-19-15

We got to have a good sleep, got to sleep in. but heard about the plans today and it sounds fun, get to do an art project today and go cannoning, I have never gone cannoning before so that should be fun to learn and do. We are still trying to get our blogs done but hope to day goes well. 😎
7-14-15
Today we came to a museum, we learned about the new berry volcano, about 70 million years ago Oregon was covered by seas and see life like branchiopods, corals, sponges and ammonites. I enjoyed being there because he did talk about how the volcano was formed. We went on a hike to see the side of the volcano, it was kind of hard but I was sleepy the day we did it so I was slow, the view at the end of the trail was cool. I enjoyed the walk in the lava tube, its 50 feet tall and a mile long, I was walking in it with a friend, my cousins where running though it fast and they tripped a couple times, otherwise we found out that there was another cave in it. It was easy to get through it. After all that we went back to the camp and had dinner, right after dinner I went to sleep.

7-15-15

We talked to a guy named Howard and he was talking about the treaty and fish, the anadromous fish are fall Chinook salmon, spring Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon (threated), summer steal head. The resident fish are rainbow trout, bull trout (threatened). It was a good talk, the view from the building was beautiful, and you could see the 3 sisters from it. He was going to fast on his power point and I didn’t get to take a lot of notes down. After we got done talking with him we got to walk around the town for about an hour got to check out the stores and it was cool, I seen stuff that I have never heard of and new things. I tried a pop and candy from japan and it was good, the pop was really good and the candy was different but I enjoyed it, can’t wait to give my family some of that candy to see what they think of it, everyone who I shared it with thought it was weird too. We went back to camp after that and had dinner, did the dishes and went to sleep.

We made it here! Yay! well on the first day we was making our way to Oregon we got to our camp site and set up camp and set our tents up and had dinner .We got there and it was raining, we had to set our tents up in the rain so the inside of the tent was wet, I’m also sharing a tent with one of my friends named Judy. It’s pretty cool to come back to this site again, I was also on this trip last year but there was firefighters in the area and it wasn’t so good. The trip took a while to get there but the drive on the way there was pretty.

7-13-15

We got to talk to speaker on fire and what we would have to do if there is a fire. There is a lot to think about when there is a fire, you would have to worry about how big the fire is and what the weather is like, should they let it just burn for a while or put it out?, what are they going to use to put it out. Are they going to need more help? What are they going to use to put it out and what is the fire putting at risk, like houses, animals, some kind of plant or tree. They have to worry about this all in very little time and it’s hard. We also learned about dead fuel like how many hours would it take for something to dry after it got wet

  • 0 - quarter inch > 1 hour
  • quarter inch -  1 inch > 10 hours
  • 1 inch - 3 inch > 100 hours
  • 3 inches - as big to a tree stump > 1000 hours
We also learned when a tree needed to be cut down, there was a tree that was missing the top to it and it would need to be cut down because the top of it was missing, but if we had to cut down a tree it would depend on where it is .We also were told about the land, there is deer, elk, cougars, black bears, turkeys, we didn’t see any there but the waning was good to know. We did see a deer around the camp site today but it was chased off. We also we went to a BBQ and had some food there, before we went to eat we went to talk to a couple ladies about seed farm and there job is to take a seed out of a husk, there biggest season is in September they get 20 different kinds of seeds in there factory also they have 1500 different kinds of seed collection. I didn’t really have an interest in that area.

7-17-15
Today we went to check out the phethroglifics and seen "she who watches " some pretty cool art. we also went to a museum to learn about mostly the lewis and clark. It took it back as far as the ice age. We also set up camp today and packing up tomorrow.
7-16-15

We came over to celilo longhouse, we where going to stay there a couple days there but there was a change in plans, we did pull weeds around the longhouse and cleaned it up a little bit, we also had a speaker come and talk to us named paul and he was talking about how our tribe needs more natives to help with the fishing rights but not just the fishing rights but all our rights, its almost making me want to change my mind in what i want to do i want to also help my tribes rights (yakima) i would really want to step up in these kinds of things. He also talked about the dam and how its effecting the fish, both pro and cons on it, but most of it was bad about the dam. The dam is really effecting the way the water is along with the fish, before the dam people used to drink from the water and see fish swimming in it and it would be just beautiful but now no one can drink from it anymore, cant see the fish in it like it use to be. The dam has stopped the fish from going other places, the fish is not the same way it use to be back then, the non-native people started to do there work on them and messed up the way things use to be.
There are people who don't understand how much our fish means to us, we have stories on how we go the fish and where it came from, stories from how the land looked before the dam was put up. The dam is also killing and putting some of the fish at danger, maybe if the dam was never put up we wouldn't have so meany problems with it. I think that the dam needs to be taken down, i would love for the water to be clear again so i can see what it was like and to see the fish swimming in the river, also to have them go back to where they use to be back then. Defending our rights is a big thing, we would have to bring up the treaty, why we think its to be taken down, whats the plan after its down, but to make it would the whole tribe would have to work together and make a plan and all come to a agreement.
